Trainee Toxicologist Job Type: Full-Time. Starting Salary: 36381 plus benefits To find out more about the job please click the ‘apply for job’ button to be taken to Imperial job site About the role Applications are invited for a Trainee Toxicologist to work in the Toxicology Unit within the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism within the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction at Imperial College London. The unit carries our work on behalf of Coroners, handling approximately 3,000 cases per year. The data from the routine casework is used for the translational research carried out by the unit. The post involves the analysis of post-mortem samples for drugs and alcohol from Coroners cases to assist in establishing the cause of death. As this is a trainee post, full training will be given in all aspects of the role. Subject to satisfactory completion of in-house training as a trainee toxicologist (approximately 3 years), there is potential for the post-holder to progress to Toxicologist level. What you would be doing The post involves carrying out various extraction methods including solid-phase, liquid-liquid and protein precipitation extractions. The post-holder will use and conduct basic maintenance on the analytical instrumentation including head space-gas chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. What we are looking for A minimum qualification of an honours degree (upper second class or above) in chemistry, pharmacology, biochemistry or related subject. Key essential skills include Ability to follow protocols Ability to absorb and manage detailed information Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to impart and obtain information clearly and concisely verbally and in writing Relevant laboratory experience is desirable What we can offer you This is a full time, fixed term contract with yearly renewal (subject to funding), the post becomes open-ended after 3 years. As this is a trainee post, full training will be given in all aspects of the role. Subject to satisfactory completion of in-house training as a trainee toxicologist (minimum 3 years), there is potential for you to progress to Toxicologist level.
