Principal Electrical Engineer - (CDAE) - Design Review Specialist Location: Remote – UK Wide Salary: Competitive package Position: Permanent or Freelance My client is an international engineering firm with teams and projects across the UK and Europe. They supply HV control&protection products alongside, electrical design, HV engineering and installation services to the leading electricity TSOs and DNOs across the UK. As a result of growth and recent framework wins, they are currently increasing the size of their team. We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer, with protection systems experience, to join the team as a Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) for National Grid projects. This senior position requires current or previous TP141 authorization and focuses on ensuring technical excellence in protection and control system designs. Key Responsibilities Lead the review and approval of protection and control system designs for National Grid projects as a CDAE Verify compliance of supplier designs with National Grid technical specifications and policies Review protection schemes, setting calculations, and associated documentation Assess and approve key line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and protection setting proposals Assess delivery processes and optimize to create efficient engineering workflows Provide technical guidance on complex protection arrangements Support interface management between various project stakeholders Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development Participate in technical queries resolution and design development meetings Ensure solutions are compliant with the latest policies and standards Provide technical input for Sales, Proposals and Operations departments Required Qualifications&Experience HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering Current TP141 authorization for protection schemes Extensive experience in transmission and distribution protection systems Proven experience in National Grid CDAE role or similar design approval positions Deep understanding of protection coordination principles Experience with protection relay systems (particularly Siemens SIPROTEC) Strong knowledge of National Grid technical specifications and standards This is a fantastic opportunity to work on high profile projects, deploying the latest protection system equipment and software.
