Coalesce Management Consultancy (CMC) have an consulting assignment available for a Principal Designer to work on various projects, on a 12-month contract basis (Outside IR35). CMC provide expert engineering solutions on an international capacity for Engineering and other Energy projects. Currently we’re looking for a Principal Designer to support on National Grid projects within our Energy division on a 12-month contract basis, with hybrid working environment. The Person: Degree level education or equivalent with formal training in engineering Chartered Engineer preferred with either the ICE or IStructE Strong, proven post-graduate experience in the engineering industry Experience of the supervision of sub-consultants or subcontractors Strong, proven experience of the management of design of engineering works IT Literate (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CAD) Good knowledge and experience of applying National Grid Technical Specifications and Design Handbooks Responsibilities: • Drive a Safety by Design approach at all times. • Lead various civil project designs including reinforced concrete design and detailing, site design and enablement, land development, drainage systems, building and structure installation. • Maintain compliance of CDM regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of designs output by the team • Undertake technical quality assurance reviews and provide design approval as required / permitted by the Chief Engineer. • Work closely with other elements of the design team to ensure effective collaboration on multi-disciplinary projects. • Assist in the management of the tender process, understand and interpret scope of works, provide advice and opinion. • Ensure that Procedures and Manuals provided for compliance with the appropriate Quality Assurance Standards are applied. • Mentor and provide guidance to all the members of the team • Support the development and implementation policies, processes and procedures to support the continual improvement of the team. • Where appropriate and required act as Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) or equivalent role. • Support in the advancement of the engineering design delivery for the team with particular focus on upskilling and use of software. Contribute to the development and updating of the design aids and computer programmes and assist in the analysis of new design concepts.
