Job Advertisement: Assistant Quantity Surveyor Location: North London Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience Contract Type: Permanent About the Company: Our client is a highly respected and innovative Civil Engineering company, specialising in plant machinery solutions. With over 10 years of experience, they are a Tier 1 Principal Contractor licensed to work with Network Rail but predominantly operate as a subcontractor to other major contractors in the industry. They undertake a diverse range of works, including drainage, de-vegetation, fencing, excavations, and signal infrastructure installations. Role Overview: We are seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to provide vital commercial expertise across a wide range of projects. You will work closely with project teams to ensure commercial alignment with strategic project objectives, ensuring value for money while managing contract obligations efficiently. Key Responsibilities: Provide commercial support and decision-making across all contracts, ensuring that strategic project objectives are met and value for money is achieved. Negotiate commercial agreements with third parties, managing interfaces between contracts and suppliers. Assist with contract management to ensure effective commercial control throughout the project lifecycle. Support Project Managers with their obligations under NEC3 and NEC4 contracts. Assist with the valuation of variations and compensation events. Contribute to the assessment of contract payments. Review and analyse monthly supply chain reports, providing insights and recommendations as needed. Key Requirements: Extensive experience working with NEC3 and NEC4 contracts (minimum of 3-5 years). Strong knowledge of commercial practices within the construction and civil engineering sectors. Familiarity with relevant software such as CEMAR, Asite, Construction Manager, and Microsoft Project. Ability to negotiate effectively with third parties and manage contract interfaces. Proven experience in contract administration and payment assessments. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels. Desirable Skills: Previous experience working within the rail sector or on infrastructure projects. Experience with project management software such as Microsoft Project.
